Who has a CCW Permit?

Just wondering where some of you stand on CCW's and how many of you have a permit.

Most ardent 2nd Amendment rights proponents fall into one of two camps.

One camp favors the acquisition of CCW permits.

The camp says CCW's are just another resource the government will use to track you and your guns down on confiscation day.

While CCW's allow us greater freedom to carry, do they also place on a government watch list of "gun-nuts" crazy enough to want to carry concealed?

One of our local firearms dealers. One day a month the course is women only so they do not feel intimidated.

The instructor has been shot in a parking lot encounter. Both he and his wife pack at all times. The instructors wife helps in the course, the wife is the competition shooter.

That's really cool that they offer courses for women. I'm just curious...what type of gun do you have your wife and daughter shooting with? What are they comfortable handling?

It's interesting how women can be in a room full of guns, handling one, and feel intimidated by the men around.

My wife is small framed and could not handle my Ruger KP345 or my Ruger 357 mag security six. I talked to the instructor and bought my wife a 5 shot snub nose 38 Special revolver with rubber grips (Taurus aluminum frame rated for +P loads). My larger framed daughter shot several of the instructors handguns during the session and appears to be most comfortable with the 40 caliber Glock (her husband also happens to own one also).

I have a Lady Smith & Wesson for a backup gun after asking scores of police and detectives what they use for a backup.......its 9mm and just like the regular one but lighter and slightly smaller. While I have had women shoot my 9mm Glock and they say its alright - they all seemed to prefer the LadySmith (with Hogue grip to reduce recoil).

Missing from the poll is the response - Want one but can not get one.

In the stupid state of California - its next to impossible to get one.....I read once that no one has been given one in years........

Unfortunately, I don't want to carry one badly enough to relocate.......yet. :hmmmm:

Both my wife and I have a CCW permit.

Her weapon of choice after a lot of time with just about everything is a Colt Commander-really done up. 45 ACP. She uses the same weapon in the hop and pop competitions.

I carry a Springfield Micro Compact. 45 ACP.

The Springfield right out of the box = her Commander. And I spent a bunch getting her's up and running.

We have a lot of choices at our disposal but the ones above are the ones always with us.

I used to work across from a guy who was hired in through one of the temporary services. After a week or so he told me his story.

He was caught carrying a concealed weapon and charged with a felony. The court system and his lawyer drained his bank accounts. He spent time in jail or prison and lost his job. His 357 was confiscated. He could not find a job because he was a convicted felon and had to work for minimum wage with a temp service. He can no longer own or buy firearms.

Not wanting to have my life ruined, I got the permit......

RM....Vermont/Alaska style ccw and Fla. 'stand your ground' has been proposed here in OH. The first step is saying good bye to gov. Taft in November. He will have completed his second term so he is out the door. Thank God. Blackwell is the better choice for gun owners. We shall see what happens......

I do have to admit though, I live in a State where carrying concealed WO a "permit" is a misdemeanor.

Sounds like it's time for your family (and others) to fight or flee. God bless you and good luck.

Here in Idaho anybody who can pass an FBI check can get them. Easy in the same office where we get our Drivers Licence. Our Legislature made it plain to law enforcement that Citizens were not to be hassled. Just no big deal in Idaho.

Yes, I have a permit. Yes, it sucks that we need a permit for a right. Yes, I carry all the time, put it on in the morning take it off in the evening. Yes, I am never more than a couple of feet away from a firearm.

Re: Who has a CCW Permit?

My two fists are deadly weapons. I don't need a firearm!

Just kidding.

A new gunrange is opening up near my home soon and I'll be getting one there. My state has recently done away with the official list of CCW holders, but I'm sure the gov will still have access. I think it was public information before. We have also adopted a law that allows for deadly force to be used in defending ones home or car from carjacking. Before, we had to prove that our life was in danger prior to shooting & killing a home invader or risk being brought up for murder. I know of a few people that are in prison for defending their home. I have met these people personally. I supose one could throw themselves against the wall and plant a knife or gun on the invader if you had to, to prove your life was threatened. Otherwise, if a huge smiling man breaks down your door and politely starts rummaging through your valuables, you could not shoot him.

I personally lobbied to have that law changed. I can't say I deserve all the credit, because they normally ignore my requests.

Yes, get a CCW. It doesn't mean you have to carry one wherever you go. But, if you have a bad feeling or are going downtown, take your gun legally with you. It's like having an extra "right" that others don't have.

AgAuGal,

I don't mean to come off as a snot.........BUT, don't ask, don't tell.

I try not to talk about what I have or don't have, how much or where it might be. The idea behind a CCW is the perp never knows who is armed, if the homeowner is armed or if they own a firearm and know how to use it.

We now live in the electronic age. Just Google your name, then go to map quest. See? All that we do and say on line is saved forever, no sense in giving out ammo.

Excellent graphic RM. I am with you on that we need to draw the line somewhere. But the key word is we. Until the day comes when they decide to start door to door confiscations, I just don't see any uniform collaborated resistance happening.

But you are 100% correct. We shouldn't need to obtain a government granted permit in order to secure a God-given right.

Re: Who has a CCW Permit?

I do think getting a CCW puts you on lists. For example when a cop stops your car he knows if you have a CCW permit. That sucks.

I have one, because I carry 24/7. being armed 24/7 at some point I'm going to get 'caught' or I might have to use it. The hassel (if not prision time) for not having a permit could ruin my family (I am the sole bread winner). Not worth the risks. Before I was married I carried w/o a permit.

The plus side to having a permit, I rarely try to actually conceal my weapon. It's nomally a half assed attempt.

I feel the Second Ammendment is my carry permit, but I can't afford to spend several days in jail and legal council at this point in my life. The 25 bucks for the permit is 'worth it' so to speak.

As far as a watch list, at this point if you have ever bought a gun from a dealer or bought a box of ammo via credit/debit card you are on a list already. Having 'concealed weapon permit' next to "Has order 25k rounds of ammunition from xyz company, 15k from abc, 5k from ACME..." really isn't going to move me up the list that far.

There is no permit needed Alaska wide, including Anchorage. A permit is needed ,only, if one is traveling and wants/needs reciprocity with another state.

I think you are onto something here P! I think we should print up some 2nd Amendment cards and carry them at all times. When we get stopped or questioned, we just flash that 2nd Amendment "carry card" permit at the JBT and go on our merry way!

Yeah I carried for years and years without one.

Thought about it one day and decided that if I ever had to draw on someone and drop the hammer, that piece of paper just might have an effect on the Newspaper Headlines.

or
Man Defends Himself From Would Be Attacker.

I think they still teach this in most states CCW classes, You will more than likely be sued if you ever have to use your firearm, having the permit might have a positive side before a Jury

Always pay cash for ammo. As for guns (also cash only), sure some of my guns were bought through dealer's. However, the gun laws have not always been this controlled.

There was a time (not that long ago) when you could buy or sell a rifle to anyone.

A hand gun required a simple bill of sale (usually hand written on a piece of paper, no special forms involved). I've purchased many under these condition.

So, the odds of those folks I purchased from still having their copy are slim. I still have my copies though. We're talking about purchases made 20-35 years ago. Some of these people have passed on to their reward ( I can think of at least three).

One was a young sailor who was in a hurry to get back to his ship (they were scheduled to way anchor shortly). What are the odds that this kid still has his copy.

There were others that I accrued as payment of a debt.

Even if they do, it's all legal and the information is NOT in the hands of the government.

As for the ones that were bought through dealer's, if they come looking for them, that's what they'll find in my gun safe (paid cash for that too).
